About Us:
Madder 139 nurtures emerging and experimental art, promoting it internationally through curated exhibitions, art fairs and placing works in private and institutional collections.
Launched as a project space on Whitecross Street by Debbie Carslaw in 2005, and operating commercially since 2006, the space recently extended its Whitecross Street premises into Playhouse Yard – the site of a former 17th century Elizabethan theatre - following a period based on Vyner Street. This new incarnation aims to further facilitate experimentation, encouraging artists to develop their practice outside the constraints of the white cube, and offer space for performative events based programming to run parallel to gallery exhibitions.
